I am sick to death of people who try to make the perfect the enemy of the possible.
This is the most comprehensive, detailed plan ANY CANDIDATE has ever put forth to deal with the fundamental cost issue of our time — Health Care. And there will be a large number of people who use the very details of the plan against it…as if they have a better idea. Oddly enough, any “better idea” never gets stated.
To every person who has said “The numbers don’t add up” I say to you “they add up until you come up with different numbers.” I trust Warren’s background a lot more than I do yours.
To every person who states “The wealthy will move/cheat/stop it” I say to you the job of getting the weathy in this country to pay their fair share is long overdue. Predatory Capitalism is eating away at this country’s middle class, and has been doing so since Reagan’s administration. This is the best chance in a generation for genuine, thoughtful, possible change.
There will be timid souls who are staggered by the price tag of health care, who apparently can’t realize they are GOING to pay this number, with or without a plan like Team Warren’s. I’d personally like to see the entire country foot the bill…not just the bottom 80 per cent of the population.
It took the very very rich more than 40 years of rewriting and tweaking the tax laws of the country to get us to our current financial crisis. At this point 85 per cent of the tax laws currently on the books can be utilized by ONLY the richest per 20 per cent. It’s doubtful the wealthy, who wrote those tax breaks and had their paid-for congressman pass it for them, did themselves any harm while they were creating them.
As far as I’m concerned, Liz Warren is the ONLY person running who can claim to be a genuine Capitalist. Everyone else wants the existing system to continue enriching the very top at the expense of everyone else…and the Predatory Capitalists want business as usual more than anyone else.
