This past year has been one of tremendous growth and learning. After raising $4.5m in our seed round in February, we were lucky to be welcomed into the market by significant customer adoption. From having only a handful of customers at the end of 2018 to working with legal and procurement teams around the world today, I cannot be more grateful to each and every individual that trusted us to manage your most important legal documents. Thank you. Thank you. …

If one were to ask a lawyer what they spend the majority of their day doing, the least expected practical answer would probably be “reading.” Nor would the average layman anticipate that the reading was very hard work — surely, anyone who had passed a bar exam would be more than capable? But the twist is that this reading involves researching contracts. …

Why did you want to work at a legal tech startup?

Both my parents are lawyers and tried to dissuade me from attending law school. They both hated law school and told me how miserable firm life is. Despite these warnings, I thought about applying to law school when I read about all of the legal tech in “Above the Law”. Seeing these industry disrupters motivated me. Law was changing to provide clients with better service through the power technology.

I knew then I wanted to join that revolution, because other than perhaps math, law is the most powerful force in the universe. If we can increase people’s access to it, we can change the way our society works for the better. …

After doubling our team twice in the last 12 months, we decided to build a dedicated Evisort.Careers page. We realized that in the many interviews we’ve had, candidates have been excited to learn about the culture we’ve built at Evisort, the environment they work in, and the type of projects they get to work on.

Working at an early stage startup has been unlike any other work experience we’ve had. It is a more personal journey, the bonds you build with colleagues are deeper, more organic, and you have ownership over the projects you’re working on. …

Memme Onwudiwe of Evisort

Memme Onwudiwe is Evisort’s EVP of Business Development

Few people at Harvard or elsewhere manage to pack more activity into a workday than Memme Onwudiwe ’19.

One day last month, he was finalizing deals for Evisort, the Harvard Law-MIT startup that he joined soon after its founding, which was then on the final day of a quarter. He was also a few hours away from an interview with the President of Ghana, the latest in a series of notable interviews he’s arranged for the Kennedy School’s Africa Policy Journal. Meanwhile, being a 3L a few months from graduation brings pressures of its own.

It all ties in with his belief that anyone who doesn’t pursue a wide range of interests at Harvard Law School is missing a golden opportunity.

It’s 5:30pm on a Friday and you receive an email from your CFO assigning you the task of reporting to him all of the executed contracts with publicity clauses your company has over 150K. You have approximately 10K contracts located in multiple repositories and limited insight into what is where. Order a Pizza and fire up the Keurig — looks like you’re in for a long weekend.

If this sounds anything like you, then you know how cumbersome the task of managing contracts can be without a modern, AI-powered Contract Management System in place. …
