Knowing the Details of Wire Feed Process
Wire feed processes are very popular nowadays since in this process, robotic welding is easily applicable. Also, people can learn it very easily. The continuous electrode is the main component of all wire feed processes. This is then fed to the welding pool. Apart from an electrode, this process also includes electrode wire handling equipment and same power supplies.
Equipment Required for Wire Feed Process
Wired feed processes require various types of equipment- welding cables, constant voltage supply (DC) and wire feed mechanism. Voltage supply contains the current capacity of the range 90 to 850 amperes. The welding cable consists of hose, high current guns, heavy copper conductor and control circuit. The hose is used to supply shielding machine which in turn is used for protection of weld pool. The control circuit is used to trigger gun’s switch.
Function of Wire Feed Welding Books
It states that greater is the current capacity of power supply, heavier is the wire and thus, greater is the unit’s weight. Wire feed welding books explain wire feed mechanism. To implement wire feed mechanism, welding gun is required. This is mainly used for flux core arc welding, which is self-shielded in nature. For increasing weld pool visibility, shielding gas nozzle should be removed.
In case of GMAW, an electrically operated solenoid is used to release shielding gas from flow meter and regulator. Wire feed welding books also contain information about gas shielding processes like MCAW, GMAW, FCAW-GS and how they help in welding process. Then, electric wire is kept between base metal and contact. After the consumption of wire, more electrode wire is supplied to maintain a stable arc.
Transfer tube also plays an important role in wire feed process. It is a braided conductor mainly made up of copper.Welding current moves to electrode wire through this tube. These tubes are electrically insulated to prevent it from getting welded at workplace. For installing wire feed welding setup, at first, one should turn off wire feeder and welder. Then, the electrode is mounted and the wire is uncoiled. Then, the wire is inserted into feed roller mechanism and the gates are closed. It is followed by turning on wire feed motor. At last, inch button is used to actuate electrode drive motor.
