The Houses of Chickens
Livingstonia: a small village on the side of mountain in Malawi, Africa.
In a country where subsistence agriculture is the norm, almost everyone keeps their own chickens.
Far from the monotonous, dull, overcrowded chicken sheds found in the developed world, every chicken house in Malawi is unique. Limited by money and materials, Malawians build chicken houses with resourcefulness and creativity.
While visiting in 2012, I fell in love with the beauty of these chicken houses, and their position in such a spectacular landscape. Here are some of my photographs…
