Modern day Birthday parties — i never got…
i don’t know about you? but i certainly never remember going to any kids birthday when i was young and seeing anything of the likes of a jumping castle, a magician, pony rides, animal farms, face painters or kids party entertainers. Excuse me for thinking this but does it seem like our kids just get everything compared to us as kids ? I swear some the best parties i went to as a kid were at Maccas and Hungry Jacks! they were the stand out for me being a kids because i got to take home my happy meal and we had ice cream cake lol.
The modern day party comprises of at least two of the above entertainers for kids at their birthday parties as a minimum now along with , Lolly buffets , loot bags, face painters and some kind of animal farm or ride at some of the more exuberant parties with no expense spared. Some of the most inviting jumping castles i have ever seen with kids favourite theme on them or in the brightest colours you could imagine have been at these parties with kids just going nuts on them. Who wouldn't ? i probably would of wet my pants if i seen this as a kid at someones party.
Jumping castles were only ever at the local show from memory as a kid. they were huge , hard and hurt like hell when you got bounced by the bigger kids lording it over the smaller kids. These days the jumping castles seem nice and soft like you would want to sleep on them. They are also bite sized compared to the ones i remember. I find it amazing in this day and age we can now hire an entire fete or town show to be at our kids back yard birthday parties now complete with the carni’s running them. There are business’s that specialise in kids jumping castle hire and equipment like Popcorn machine hire, Fairy floss machine hire, Snow cone machine hire, slushy machine hire and loads of other stuff like hotdogs and churros , i mean who doesn't love all that and who wouldn't want all that at your birthday party as a kid ?
I suppose if it was available in our day, our parents probably still wouldn't of said we could have it… “too much sugar and too much fuss” “only spoilt kids would get that”. Makes you wonder how our kids are going to top this when they have their own kids in the future. I look forward to sitting back in my arm chair and suggesting to my own kids how a couple of apples in a bucket might do the trick, it might just raise some eyebrows.
