A condom is not the UI to sex; genitals are.

Food packaging is not the UI to eating; utensils or your hands are.

I’ll give you the cockpit one.

But your “it’s in the way; less of it is better” is just utterly and horrifically flawed in your examples. In your examples, the “UI” (condom and packaging) prevents undesirable outcomes or, in the case of food packaging, the experience even being possible at all — when was the last time you had milk straight from the cow’s udder?

Blanket statements like the ones you say in your article and comments are fun for Medium articles, but don’t represent UI, UX, product design and theory as a whole.
