Extraordinary Measures For Extraordinary Times
Duty of the Patriot
Patriotism is built on the pillars of courage, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to justice. Today’s political turmoil tests these principles and threatens to erode them. An administration that unrelentingly breaks laws and violates norms without impunity jeopardizes the posterity of our republic and the sustenance of liberal democracy. America is only as strong as its values and those who defend them. It is the duty of patriots to fight with resilience in defending those values. The cost of inaction, delayed action, or weakness has never been greater. Extraordinary circumstances demand a worthy response.
The Eradication of Trump
President Trump has intimidated witnesses, impeded investigations, delegitimized the judiciary, monetized the presidency, conspired with a foreign adversary to rig a presidential election, and broken his oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution. The sheer multitude of criminal activities overflowing from the White House is uniquely terrible. Given the size and scope of these criminal activities paired with a three-million deficit in the popular vote, the Congress should pass a law that essentially erases the Trump legacy by making all legislative achievements, regulatory overhauls, executive orders, and judicial appointments null and void (and yes, this means removing Neil Gorsuch from the Supreme Court). Trump’s presidency is illegitimate and fomented on a stack of crimes; therefore, none of his agenda deserves to be enacted and ought to be reversed. A fundamental value of liberal democracy is that our government reflect the will of the people. That will has been grossly perverted.
To restore popular governance, all Trump era laws and appointments need to be erased, and the people must have a new, special election. And don’t tell me that’s ridiculous; it just happened, for real, not two months ago. Okay, not here in America, in South Korea. Nonetheless, the removal of a president based on criminal activities justifies having a new election. And of course, Donald Trump should be impeached, indicted, and imprisoned. In America, we have the rule of law, not the rule of man, nor the laws of the jungle.
Safeguards for Democracy
Let this dark chapter in American history be a lesson for us all in what not to do, and let us enshrine this lesson into law. After Trump is removed and a new election is held, the government should have a Truth Commission that focuses on restoring trust between the people and their government. This will require special committees to deal with ethics reform, voting rights, and government accountability. Healing our nations must come with advancement for the sake of our sustainability.
My Plea for Action
Each and every one of us has a special obligation to compel our government to embody the pillars of patriotism: courage, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to justice. Our government has fallen short. It is up to us, we the people, to demand our representatives change for the better. Don’t doubt the smallness of your voice. You are not alone. The power of the people is greater than the people in power. Resist.
