The Updated Case for Impeachment
The following is an UPDATED list of all of the reasons that Trump should and must be impeached, removed, and indicted.
1.) The Emoluments Clause of Article II Section 9 of the Constitution specifically makes clear that a president cannot receive gifts from a foreign country. By failing to divest from his businesses, Trump put himself at risk of violating this clause as soon as he swore the oath. Since January, Trump has used the power of his office to grow his businesses and his wealth. From Chinese trademarks in exchange for recognition of certain policies to Bahrain Ian National staying at the Trump Hotel in DC, there has been absolutely no attempt to follow the law.
2.) By attempting to implement a ban on Muslims entering the United States, Donald Trump broke his constitutional oath to Faithfully execute the Constitution of the United State. Freedom of religion is a fundamental American value enshrined in the 1st amendments as well as the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th amendment. Imposing a religious test is fundamentally on American, unethical, and impeachable.
3.) Donald Trump fired the director of the FBI after learning of an inquiry into his campaign and it's alleged ties to Russian election hacking. He admitted to this on NBC days later. His exact words were " I was going to fire him regardless of recommendation. You know this whole thing with Trump is a made-up story." Right there on camera, Donald Trump admitted to obstruction of justice.
4.) Pardoning Sheriff Joe Arpaio was an abuse of power as it circumvented our justice system. Professor Martin Redish that it offends the Due Process Clause because the only effective redress for those whose rights were violated by then–Sheriff Arpaio when he defied the court’s injunction is a contempt sanction, and voiding that sanction with a pardon both neuters the judicial power to enforce constitutional rights and deprives Arpaio’s victims of relief.
Special Counsel Robert Mueller's ongoing investigation is looking into potential money laundering coventures as well as any and all collusion between members of the Trump campaign and the Russians. While there is no evidence that Trump had prior knowledge or took part in any collusion with the Russians, there is substantial evidence that members of his campaign including his son at the very least attempted to collude with Russians. This investigation is long and will go on for some time, but based on trumps reaction to it, one can logically conclude that he is deeply concerned about the outcome of it. Nonetheless, whether or not Trump knew of or participated in collusion, the man has been stomping all over the Constitution for 7 months now and needs to be impeached, removed, and indicted. The reason that none of this has happened is not for lack of evidence, but for lack of political will. And that is profoundly depressing. Our institutions are failing us when we need them the most. This is a defining crisis of our democracy. It is past time to remove the treasonous criminal Who jeopardizes the future of Law and Order in this country and the posterity of our Republic.
