ASSESSMENT 3A Sound

Hand drawing by Jesse (2016)

The technology i chose is as score produced by chance encounter of unlikely sounds. The composer i followed is John Cage and his work ‘Fontana Mix’(1958) that mixed of various sounds inspired me to take in my work.

I record the sounds in hyde park, and there is full of various sounds. In my recorded voice, there are sounds of fountain, bird, speaking and music and there sounds display and notate hyde park.

My drawing is a record of my sounds. The whole drawing is divided to 7 parts, which represents 7 pieces of my recording sound. In the beginning of voice, there is a sound of fountain, so i drew continuous and circular straight lines to show that the sound of fountain is constant and voice is high. The next is to record sound of birds. Dots and lines represent that sound of birds is not constant. In the middle of drawing is to record ringing bells in St Mary’s Cathedral and i draw a lot of small circles because sound of bells is full and it seems like lots of crowd circles crash each other to make this voice. The next is to record sound of playing skateboard and slash is to show activities of skateboard. The next small blocks record the voice of people speaking who play chess in hyde park. The last one is music marks to record sound of singing by a busker.

For architects, the space can be designed and set up but they cannot control users to how to use this space by representing sounds in this space.
