The Release 19 RAN & SA workshop, took place in Taiwan, wrapped up last week.

This workshop was held in the way of hybrid, both f2f meeting as well as online dial-in.

There were 700 registered delegates who joined the workshop, and 550+ proposal submissions for Rel. 19 SA & RAN topics (Nokia). In terms of RAN workshop, +480 submissions from 80+ organizations (RAN chair).

In this workshop, we have the first look on what topics in Rel. 19 will be focused on.

The final package of Rel. 19 is expected to be ready in December 2023.

The Rel. 19 specifications are expected to be finalized and frozen at the end of 2025.

The Rel. 19 is the second release of 5G-Advanced, it’s a continuation of Rel. 18, also the bridge towards 6G.

The following topics were proposed based on Rel. 19 RAN workshop.

All topics are subject to further discussion and justification.

If any additional topics are required to add, it’s acceptable to submit them to RAN#101.

Most of the topics are the continuation of Rel. 18, and how those topics will continue is based on the outcome of Rel. 18 including AI/ML air interface (e.g., mobility improvement), NTN evolution (e.g., regenerative payload architecture), duplex evolution, network energy saving enhancement, XR evolution (e.g., capacity improvement), AI/ML for NG-RAN (e.g., model training, data collection improve energy saving), NCR enhancement, etc.

Some of new themes, 5G Femto, Integrated Sensing & Communications, had been discussed in Rel. 19 workshop.
