What do you think? Can our bodies operate as our particular compass? Or, does the Holy Spirit “take the wheel” when it comes to body/mind interaction?

Great thoughts! Great question! I love the thought that our bodies speak to us of our need for each other — they demonstrate the orientation of our souls towards each other. How tragic then, that trauma damages our ability to be in our bodies and feel safe (or even feel anything at all) with others.

In regard to your question, it has been my experience that becoming more in tune with my body has made me more sensitive to the movement of the Holy Spirit. I think the Spirit always respects our selves, including our bodies, and also interacts with them. Coming from a charismatic tradition where my focus has been to “press into” the “spiritual” and not pay as much attention to the “physical,” it is a joyful surprise that I can know the Spirit more as I reside more deeply in my physical body.
