— 40 years of music

I was tagged by my friend Cheney Meaghan in her post about the soundtrack of her life. I enjoyed reading her list and listening to some of the songs she posted that I’d never heard, so I decided to take her up on the challenge and make a list of the most important songs in my life.

I’m approaching my 40th birthday. Since it’s a milestone in life I’ll cover music from my childhood until now. I admit I haven’t listened to a lot of music for good chunks of my adult years (except whatever the kids play). In my childhood and teen years though, music was everything to me. If I wasn’t listening to it I was writing songs.

Music was my companion during lonely times. In adulthood, I traded the constant sound of music for a lot of silence and contemplation. I put my pen down too and didn’t write lyrics anymore. I even forgot about all the stacks of notebooks filled with music lyrics until recently when I became an accidental poet. I realized poetry wasn’t new to me after all. I wrote song lyrics religiously for many years and they were types of poems.

On to the music!

The 80s— big hair in cheesy MTV videos, NKOTB, Axl Rose, record stores, buying the single and the entire tape, recording music off the radio.
These were the albums playing on repeat in my room.
