Eyebrows are essential features of your face. Having thin or no eyebrows can dampen your self-esteem, which is where microblading comes into play. Microblading is used to change or recreate your current eyebrows and can be life-changing, but proper aftercare is critical to having beautiful eyebrows.

What is Eyebrow Microblading?

Microblading is a semi-permanent, non-invasive procedure that uses a special blade to create tiny strokes on the skin using specialized ink. These strokes are small and done to give the look of natural hair, similar to scalp micropigmentation. This process can create fuller-looking eyebrows or create new eyebrows entirely. From start to finish, the procedure typically takes around two hours and can last anywhere from one to three years, depending on how well you take care of them post-procedure.

What Should I Do Post-Procedure?

DAYS 1–7:

Use clean fingertips and mild antibacterial soap to clean your eyebrows gently. Cleansing It shouldn’t be a hardcore scrub, just a gentle rub to clean the skin. Avoid using exfoliants or acids, and be sure to rinse off all traces of soap. Once your eyebrows are fully dry, apply a small amount of aftercare ointment provided by your technician. Aftercare ointment should only be applied twice daily to avoid suffocating the skin. Aside from the daily gentle cleansing, keeping your eyebrow area dry is essential. When showering or bathing, keep your face away from the water.

DAYS 8–14:

Continue the gentle cleansing twice daily, but the aftercare ointment is typically no longer needed. While avoiding the following during the entire healing process is important, it is crucial during the second healing phase.

Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol can slow the healing process. Driving in open-air vehicles like motorcycles and dune buggies can blow dirt and other foreign objects into your eyebrows and potentially cause infection. The following should also be avoided:

  • Deep cleaning to prevent dirt and chemicals from getting on your eyebrows
  • Sports and exercise that may cause excessive sweating
  • Avoid scratching, picking, or peeling the area
  • Avoid makeup, moisturizer, and sunscreen
  • No tanning in the sun or the salon
  • No saunas, hot tubs, or swimming

After the 14th day, resume normal activities but continue to avoid laser or chemical peels and forms of exfoliation until after your touch appointment and its healing process.

LONG-TERM AFTERCARE

Your eyebrows will naturally fade over one to three years, but we highly suggest long-term aftercare to keep them from fading faster. Be sure to wear sunscreen every day to protect them from the sun’s UV rays. Excessive exposure to sunlight is a huge factor in the premature fading of permanent makeup and microblading results. It wouldn’t hurt to wear a hat or oversized sunglasses to reduce UV exposure.
