Thanks for this thought-provoking comment, Elain. I think part of the reason we do less for others as we get older is because doing more for others hurts more. Opening your heart in a big way makes you vulnerable to big wounds. Insert “What does not kill you…” aphorism here, but the main thrust of a lot of my writing is that we need to face fully love — and pain — to wring the most out of our mortal coils.
