Ever wonder why certain things are popping up on your explore page of Instagram? Or why you are seeing past websites you visited appearing as ads on your Facebook while your logged in?

Well, wonder no more. Let me, Jess McKnuckle, go on and tell you about behavioral targeting.

Behavioral targeting is when ads are purposely put in front of people who should be more receptive to a specific message due to their past web behavior, including purchases, hashtags, search engine activity, web sites viewed… this is done through the cookies being enabled.

You are telling these apps, ad networks, and social media sites what type of content to bring your way by what you search, click on, comment on, etc. You can also prevent this from happening by turning your cookies off.

Lol no not real cookies 🍪

As a matter of fact, I will be discussing cookies soon so stay tuned!
