Warning: The following contains spoilers for The Mysterious Benedict Society.

I recently watched The Mysterious Benedict Society on Disney Plus. It’s a series that’s based on a book. I’m not the only person who has thought that doing a series based on a book is a good idea. It gives the audience more time with the characters and plotline. So, for those who love fast-moving plots, the series probably isn’t for you. But I liked it.

The story follows four children recruited by Mr. Benedict and their endeavors to stop “the emergency.” The show has been a breath of fresh air, full of competent but well-rounded characters. The show acknowledges different types of intelligence and how people can work together using those skills without putting those around them down.

One character I have come to love is Kate Wetherall. She’s an acrobatic and resourceful girl who is rarely without her bucket full of handy tools. The bucket is quite important to Kate, so when she has to take it off for tetherball practice, she instructs Constance to watch it. Constance leaves the bucket to go do something else, and Kate confronts her about it. Constance says there are more important things than Kate’s stupid bucket, leading to the following conversation:

Kate: “The bucket isn’t stupid. It’s vital.”
