We are the flame

The New Yorker previewed a powerful cover this week:

And, respectfully, I disagree.

I want this image to show millions of Americans, marching, calling, writing, boycotting, organizing, and dropping everything to pro bono defend refugees, with no true political leadership in sight, from any party. I want it to show them — US — relighting the torch with their tiny sparks.

That’s the America I believe in, and it’s happening all around me, at the grassroots. We’re the flame.
