Self-medication poem

For a tired city

Prescription:

sun, and ample fruit

laughter, time outside.

2x daily hours off screens,

breath — slowed, to birdsong’s guide.

Directions:

self-help books away,

comparisons unheeded.

Digest while present in this day

until your fear’s receded.

Side effects:

kinship with grass and trees,

reduced impulse towards soul-denial.

Diminished sense of lack and loss,

in certain cases, smiles.
