The Bright Red Myth
In these unprecedentedly dark days, we quite frequently hear a notion expressed stating that while things are bad now, there will come a point where they will become so bad that the fever will break and the people in power will act. Here’s a very real problem with 99% of that sort of political analysis. It foolishly presumes there is a bright red line for the GOP- that at SOME HERETOFORE UNDEFINED POINT, Trump and his wholly corrupt White House will go too far, and Republicans will be COMPELLED(!) to act.
Let me make this crystal clear. The only thing most politicians care about is staying in power. The GOP has risen to power on the back of complicity, malfeasance, and corruption. They have disenfranchised thousands, exploited millions, and stolen billions. They have supported the rise of alt-right alternate reality, and ginned up their constituents fear of the “Other”. They have wholeheartedly embraced ignorance and anti-intellectualism, eschewing facts, logic, and science at every turn. They have unceasingly beat the drums of war and laid American bodies down as tribute at the altar of Profit.
This collection of sociopaths, degenerates and lunatics are who we are counting on to combat the perfectly obvious and spectacularly grotesque distillation of their decades-long crusade?!?
This IS the desired outcome. This IS what they have pushed so relentlessly to achieve- a brainwashed populace, widespread corruption, and a vile bombastic caricature at the helm. House, Senate, Presidency.
Their disgusting assault has worked far too effectively for them to ever deviate from it now. Their base is bought in. They’ve burned the boats and cannot go back.
There is no line.
There will never be a line.
The GOP won’t fight Trump. The GOP *IS* Trump.
