All of our teachers have so many fun activities for the holiday
Dear Aboulafia Elementary School Parents and Guardians,
We hope you have all enjoyed the recent snow; your children are looking forward to an amazing fun week of Tu Bishvat activities. All of our classroom teachers and Specials teachers have so many fun activities to share with your children, and we’d like to share some of their plans with you!
In Art class, students will be decorating a ceramic pot and planting parsley seeds in the pot to bring home.
In PE class, students will be playing Plant the Trees, a fun running game.
In Library, the librarian will be helping each child choose a book about trees, nature, or ecology. Students will use these books to write their very own picture book on an appropriate Tu Bishvat topic!
In Music class, we will be singing a variety of songs about trees, from all over the world!
In classrooms of all grades, in science lessons this week we will be studying tree planting and tree development, in an age appropriate manner for each grade. In language arts lessons, students will be spending much of their time working writing and illustrating their very own Tu Bishvat picture books. Math classes will feature plant-based problems — and naturally, school lunch all week will be plant-based, in honor of the birthday of the trees!
On Tu Bishvat itself, which falls on Fifthday this week, we will have a party in our classes, including many kinds of fruits, red and white grape juice, and of course, cake after we go out and sing Happy Birthday to the trees around our school!
On Sixthday, the whole week’s activities will culminate in a Tu Bishvat Festival of Reading. All of the students will read their books to their classmates, with parents and guardians also invited to attend. Please sign up to bring a snack for the reception after the festival; all kinds of pareve snacks are welcome (especially fruits of course!), but please refrain from bringing nuts since we have a nut-free school.
