Design and bias
When we design, we’re trying to meet a need. If we’re smart, we’ll try and find the need behind the need.
But rare is the designer who confronts the structural biases behind the need as it presents itself.
Design is moral. It’s powerful. It’s political. It can change how we perceive the world and how we care for others.
Let’s stop designing better products, or even products that make us better. Let’s start asking what “better” means.
