There’s another aspect to this sort of thing that I dislike. A famous comedienne has been posting videos of herself watching the Olympics and making snarky comments about herself while watching. Example, watching a swimmer do an excellent flip turn and saying “wow. I would drown.”

I don’t get people who put themselves down with this stuff. With practice, most people can learn to do a flip turn if they wanted to, or learn to ski, or play volleyball, etc. But it’s sort of defeatist and self-deprecating to make those announcements like that. Why do people like to put themselves down so much?
