Good points, Ian. I lived in Montreal for several years, where I learned that the population of Quebec had also rejected religion, though not until about the 1960s. Church attendence there is also largely non-existent.

I have to say that as a gay man, living in that society was one of the most refreshing things I ever experienced.

Btw, I have a good friend who lives in Bristol. Isn’t that right, Fred Shirley.
