The two most damning words in this whole article are “superfluous procedure.” Are you admitting there is such a thing? Because if you are, you’ve pretty much nailed why sympathy for public defenders is so scanty.
Arkansas is scheduled to execute eight prisoners in a short time soon. The conviction dates for most are back in the 1990’s. Are you really going to tell us that each of these cases had so many factual doubts it took over 20 years to resolve them? How many factually innocent people could have had their cases heard with the time and resources wasted on those prisoners?
