Venmo announced on Twitter that they’re giving away $10,000 dollars today. No surprise that #venmome is the top trending hashtag.

All you have to do for eligibility is to follow them and RT their tweet with your Venmo handle underneath.

What could go wrong?

Lots. While the feed isn’t as lively as some trending topics, mostly consisting of the bare minimum requirements for the payment processing giant to consider you for a prize, some people thought it would help their odds if they said why they needed the money.

Logic alert: Venmo isn’t doing this because you need:

  • Money for school (the classic subliminal “Dear Dad, I’m out of beer” plea)
  • Groceries (the cost is outrageous right now!)
  • To fix your car (if you can even afford to drive it due to the price of gasoline)
  • Help with healthcare costs or medical bills (some of the pleas nearly made me cry)
