I dislike the trolley problem for distinct reasons. It assumes that humans are merely units which ignores the complexity of reality. It assumes that everyone involved is equally important to humanity. What if the person on the bottom tracks knew how to reverse aging?

I could go on, but these are my main issues with the thought experiment. I think the trolley problem dodges the more important ethical questions we should be asking like: “what is the definition of: “should”?”

Regardless, it is five hundred percent more likely to be one of the individuals on the top tracks. So to consider the possibility of being the person on the bottom track misses the point.

Good article.
