In theory, having opinions, however wrong or hateful or ridiculous, etc., isn’t a crime. Harassment, stalking (real world or cyber),sending death (or rape or assualt) threats, and revenge porn are though. If Alex Jones is engaging in active harassment of journalists he doesn’t like, that’s a little different from him going off about chem trails or pizzagate or whatever.

College girls mocking Taylor Swift though, that seems like an odd thing to suspend someone over. Young people have been expressing vehement opinions about music they think is good or bad since forever.

There seems to be this thing where when Trump is mocked, someone goes “If conservatives made fun of Obama like that etc.”, but during his presidency conservatives DID have their own websites and media and political cartoons mocking and criticizing Obama. I know because my far-Right Uncle (RIP) was very fond of emailing this stuff to the family. “Obummer” was the kinder of the nicknames used. (and not likely to get ME suspended for typing it out!)

No, we’ve never had free speech. In the 90’s I knew on e artist who was jailed for drawing “obscene art” and of another who was arrested multiple times for painting pictures of Mayor Giuliani as Hitler , although he was never convicted, since that’s not illegal. (google Mike Diana and Robert Lederman, respectively)
