On Feb 5th 2023 several respectable Drag performers and other artists agreed to take turns celebrating Eminem. The “poet laureate of domestic violence “ as Princess Jafar (PJ) put it so eloquently.

The event was held at Spirit Lounge in Pittsburgh PA, on a Sunday evening. Opening with a savory improv hip-hop set from kidmental. The show then divulged into a variety of performances including drag, dancing, live vocals, original material, and of course covers of our beloved Marshal Mathers.

Upon taking the stage after Kid, PJ had a structure that echoed Drag shows expectations but set itself apart through mindful editing, and comedy. When do you get custom intro tracks for every performer that sound like they were pulled from an early 2000’s radio DJ? A PJ show that’s where. Who hands out G-Unit belt buckles to every audience member? PJ. Who is taking Eminem’s “STAN” and covering it live with the beautiful “Thousands of Bees” (A local music artist on the docket) in a vocal style that conjures the whiny white Boy energy we all came here for, again PJ.

We’re all promised a lot of epic nights of entertainment from many talented hosts around the city. Especially when it comes to drag, this night however I was living. Maybe it was the vibes of the venue letting me relax into the bit, maybe it was the aggressive eye contact I received from the host, but either way I loved to see what was brought to the stage.

Our Drag performers (Magic Dyke, Victoria Van Cartier, Lexa Terrestrial and Charli Munroe) tore up mind blowing lip syncs to some of the more complex Mathers flows that melt in your mouth not in your hand. A mix of bad-ass-ness, body-ody-ody, and just pure unadulterated playfulness was in the air as it seemed nobody could take themselves seriously in the best way possible. We even got a live vocal edition of “Godzilla” by the quicksilver tongue of Lexa Terrestrial.

The show closed (at a reasonable time I might add) with a great set from Baby Egypt leaving the audience with great vibes and plenty of time to unwind and socialize.

They all had one shot, and they didn’t miss it. Loose yourself in the next event(s) by any of these artists.
