Those tax incentives helped encourage the development of renewables that are now cheap enough that large-scale wind & photovoltaic power generation is now competitive with natural gas power generation without subsidies.
Those tax incentives can go away in the future, but it was money well spent to advance these environmentally friendly alternatives that can now sustain themselves without tax incentives. I’d prefer that we spent even more money on renewables, to make them even cheaper, but that won’t be happening under Trump.
I’m sorry that your perspective is so selfish that you resent the US government spending taxpayer money to encourage private R&D that will enable us to slow down the climate change that our greenhouse gas emissions are causing, and create new jobs to replace the old coal jobs that are never coming back, for the reasons described in this essay. I think it was money well spent.
