The Oppressed and the Privileged
Many people around the world believe that we live in a perfect society compared to where we were one hundred even fifty years ago. While it is true that we are in a better then how we were in the past we are far from perfection. We can’t continue to believe that there aren’t people every day being oppressed. We also can’t be ignorant to the Privilege that certain Individuals have over others. In the aspect of Gender. As far as Sex, even though its 2016 women are still being oppressed by their male counterpart. We live in a world where its assumed that women are fragile and delicate creatures that need a man to take care of them even for the smallest tasks. That they are not capable of dealing with their own problems and traits so a male has to do it for them. Women are also seen as sex symbols and constantly being harassed and put down for no reason that they can control. Its gotten to the point where there’s become a double standard for women. Either there a slut for answering a guy’s call or a stuck up prude for not answering, there’s no way out of it. Being told they look better when they smile, or you should do this with your hair and that with your body. This is a pattern that has continued for generations and will continue for generations if nothing changes. I personally don’t believe that I as a single person oppress women. Anything I do to a woman I would do to any guy, as far as hold a door open or carry something that looks too heavy for them. Were taught to be nice to each other and give compliments but there’s a thin line between complimenting and catcalling you’re either doing one to the other. Every woman deserves respect just like ever man does, It’s a universal rule that we treat everyone the same. So don’t cat call a girl if ur not ready to cat call a guy. Women deserve the same amount of respect as well as Privilege. Being born a man gives you certain perks ahead of a woman. People automatically think your more capable of doing certain things in comparison to her. The same can be said for race, religion, and social class. We live in a world where being born white makes you look like less of as compared to someone who’s skin was black or brown. If you come from a higher social class, you have the privilege of seeming more educated and intelligent. Being in the US If you are a Christian or catholic you have a privilege of practicing your religion without fear of being judged. These are bias pedestals that society places us on that if we don’t meet certain criteria’s we can’t accept the same benefits as those who do. Another point is sexuality. If your Straight then you have nothing to worry about, however if your any other sexuality you lose things like respect from your peers and your privacy. As long as there are differences that people cannot accept we will always have the Privileged and the oppressed. So its up to us to stop the crimes when we see it because if we continue to allow these thing to transgress then we as a people, culture, and society will remain in the same state of mind that we have always been in since the very first man and woman. So the next time you see a cat caller or here a situation where someone is getting better treatment because of their status instead of his or her actual qualities. Stand up
