I am very proud of what my mother was, Susan, thank you. I have her empathy (vital in the nursing profession, IMHO) but not the ability to turn it off; I have trouble around people in pain, and I do not do blood well (ironically, since as a Type 2 diabetic I get stuck 2–3 times a year). I’m glad for people like my mom (and Ellie Guzman) but I could not fill their shoes.
