I don’t know about the monotony (we’re going through a phase where a little monotony would be nice, which is why we like having something to look forward to together), but I heartily agree with the common goal part. My wife loves to plan, I love to help execute, we both love to enjoy the results together. It’s why I do very few “surprise” trips — just knowing something is on the calendar helps her tremendously when she’s having a sucky day.
