Where Do College Students Live?
Lyman Stone

I was laughing as I recalled examples of all those faults from my own experience. Like the time a roommate made us all Pacific Islanders — he said he was “answering aspirationally.” One purpose of higher education is to shatter preconceived notions, and the students love to pass that on to everyone else, database designers most emphatically included.

Soapbox: For every complaint about data sets, there’s a corresponding shortfall in creativity of research questions. If one of my coworkers is working on a question that presumes people have fixed addresses, and the utility of their result depends on getting the students right, that’s the kind of thing I bounce back to them for re-thinking.
