Nice post! I almost always had broken deadlines in each and every project I was involved. The clever manager does plan with a good margin for delays in cost and time — up to 100% might turn out to be realistic. Honestly, I had this situation, where the manager planned for double the effort in spite the estimation was roughly met — but everyone was happy afterwards, the project was done in just under 60% the cost.
