John Oliver on FIFA via The Men in Blazer’s Podcast
Comedian John Oliver joined the fellas at Men in Blazers to discuss all things footie, including FIFA and Liverpool FC.
The conversation naturally flowed into Oliver’s widely shared FIFA segment pre-World Cup, in which he outlines the reprehensible actions by soccer’s world governing body.
In his jocularly shocked rhetoric, Oliver once again dished out a few golden nuggets on FIFA:
FIFA never lose their capacity to disappoint.
They’ve managed to give the World Cup to Qatar and found ways to make it worse after the fact. Normally, you just swallow an appalling decision and then your body processes it, they’re going to find ways… we are going to have seven years of pain in the run-up to that. What a mess!
They’re like a drug cartel without the skills to move drugs. At least a drug cartel have a kind of intellectual honesty. They’re just international racketeers selling nothing.
The entire interview can be found here, as well as on the latest Men in Blazers pod — an essential piece of audio if you’re into soccer or eloquence (the gentlemen at Men in Blazers do an outstanding job of discussing sport in a manner fit for the Enlightenment).
