When I was young I read The Giver. When I was older I read George Orwell. These gave me a literary sword and shield with which to defend my mind against those who would control it. Thought control is nothing as complicated or covert as some make it out to be. It is any distortion of the truth in order to manipulate people for personal (or institutional) power. It happens all the time although we have ways to protect ourselves against it. Thank you for reminding me of this important theme and for your excellently written article.
