I built and released a social screenshot sharing app called Snappning last month because I too recognized the “power” of the screenshot as one of the most important functions on our phones.

The problem with current image sharing networks (not just Apple) is that no network provides attribution back to the app via app metadata. With web image content, we have a reference to the image URL ala Pinterest. With screenshots, however, we have limited context around what it is, what app it comes from, and where to go to download the app. One of the core features in Snappning is tagging of rich app metadata via Apple’s Search API, which means that each screenshot is “injected” with contextual information about that app that allows users to share and search screenshots by app and, most importantly for developers, link users back to their app or to their App Store page whenever a user touches a screenshot.
