When you what to research some process such as the Asia woman’s career in United States and there is no such model, you may need Grounded Theory. You can use it to broad theory or explanation about the phenomenon.

And coding in grounded theory is especially important. It is the first analytic in grounded theory journey. We need read the textual database synthesized in the former procedure, label them and find them interrelationships. Coding refer analytical frame for further research. These process just want to explain data and make it more easy to understand.

Grounded theory coding consists of at least two phases: initial and focused coding. Coding data separate to four different type, showing as below.

figure 2. Different phase of coding data

The most bottom coding is initial coding. We study fragments of data, including words, lines, segments and incidents, which is closely for their analytic import. You must stay close to your data, keep your code simple and precise, compare data with data and move quickly through data.

Next step is focused coding. The comparison between data help speeding up the focused coding. Focused coding means using the most significant and/or frequent earlier codes to sift through large amounts of data. This coding phase used to determine the adequacy of those codes.

A third type of coding is Axial coding, which used to relate categories to subcategories. It specifies the properties and dimensions of a category.

The upper coding is Theories coding. It specify possible relationships between categories researchers have developed in focused coding. They can aid in making your analysis coherent and comprehensible.

These method is extremely important because we can use them in our final project. Facing with so many data gathered from interview, questionnaire and observation, coding theory could help us category them easily and efficiently.
