I found this interview with a wonderfully competent and dynamic person involved deeply in his field highly informative and delightful in its pragmatic approach. Nevertheless a glance at the effective quality of the health system of the USA compared to other nations, considering the overall wealth of the nation, is much worse than disappointing. As a former New Yorker who could only acquire proper care for my quadriplegic American son in my wife’s country, Finland, indicates there is something horribly wrong in Gawande’s country and my own. The technology exists but there seems a basic shortcoming in its application that is obviously a life and death question.
