I think this is just another example of how routinely doctors just flat out think women are lying or exaggerating when it comes to their own health and medical history. How often do women have to continue to advocate for themselves before we are finally believed?
I had my Paragrad IUD put in about 2 1/2 years ago and while I, admittedly, have a somewhat high pain tolerance, I still was not prepared for the pain that came with it. (I also wasn’t able to take any of the recommended pain relievers due to other medication I was on.) Luckily it wasn’t as horrific as I’ve heard from the experiences of friends, and for me at least it was short term: I was able to walk out and drive myself home minutes later without any issue. Still, it is frustrating to see so many women (and trans men and non-binary individuals who also wish to not get pregnant) told they don’t know their own bodies and are just being dramatic and hysterical about pain levels.
