I find your critique of the original piece, essentially judging select portions “leftist”, inherently more biased than the writer’s interpretation of the current opposition reaction to our nation’s abrupt movement to a strategically executed authoritarian oligarchy. I believe concern regarding the mode and method of challenge supersedes any liberal/conservative label since both will ultimately recognize the deconstruction of many of the liberties we all have thought immutable. You mention correctly the institutional threat, not only to the Dems but, also to the GOP, who will decide when they will join the resistance once they realize we have Republican administration only in name. Power and greed is difficult to see past when masked under a shroud of nationalistic populism and the pent up frustration of living under the previously elected alternative.
