Family is Happiness

Immigrants make up a good amount of the population in the United States and all around the world. Without immigration, their lives along with their children’s would be drastically different. Being an immigrant myself, I can’t possibly imagine living my life in anywhere else other than California, and I am sure that most immigrants feel the same way.

As immigration continues to grow, another issue grows with it. Deportation causes huge issues, as it can potentially split up families forever. In my opinion, deportation shouldn’t even be a debate because of how terrible the consequences will be.

During my research, I learned about some of the consequences that come with deporting a family member. Most of the time, the father is the one deported leaving the mother with having to work and take care of the children on her own. For the father however, when he returns to his home country, he is generally met with a dangerous environment and can even suffer from abuse or murder.

In addition, without the father working and earning money, his family would struggle economically. But more importantly, there are mental effects for the children, such as feelings of anxiety and anger due to the loss of a family member since the child still has no idea why his father is being separated from him.

This video shows how a man who got deported had to adjust to new living conditions. Before he had to live in abandoned dwellings in a small community, he was probably enjoying his life in Detroit where he lived in an apartment that was part of a city. The video doesn’t show whether or not he had family, but the transition from a steady city life to a slow farming community was already hard enough.

The worst part however is that this video is probably showing the better half of the consequences of deportation. There are thousands upon thousands of other people who struggle with even worse problems, such as abuse and filthy environments.

Without immigrants, USA wouldn’t be the diverse country that everyone believes it to be. From the first immigrants sailing from Europe, to all of the future ones coming in, every single one of us should be allowed to have a chance to make it in the land of dreams.
