Horne of Plenty

Emmy-winning Songwriter Lance Horne brings “Lance & the Ladies” to the Broadway at Birdland concert series, Monday, October 20 at 7pm

Tell us about the upcoming Birdland concert — who, what, and why!

For my birthday this year, I wanted to return to Birdland with an all-female line-up of amazing guests and a rocking all-girl band. This is starting a series we’ll do in London, SF, LA, Sydney, and which will turn into my second album. I have such great history with amazing women in this industry, and I want to celebrate with best-of original songs, premieres, and hilarious stories from the years of working with these great dames. Stephanie D’Abruzzo and I will recreate part of our 24 Hour musical, Alexandra Silber and I will decide on the spot which song we’ll do from our rep, Kate Rigg and I will create a piece together onstage, and I’ll finally get to work with classical diva Lauren Flanagan, emerging jazz artist Gabrielle Stravelli, and the legendary Lesley Gore! Julia Murney and Julie Garnye will provide their brilliant spins on songs from my debut album “First Things Last”, and Daphne Rubin-Vega and I will reunite to perform the song she sang on the album. It’s going to be an incredibly special night!

You travel constantly. Where have you been recently? What’s your all-time fave destination?

I will be coming in directly from Berkeley Rep, where Meow Meow and I have been premiering a new show. This season, I’ve been in Sydney, London, Wuppertal w the Pina Bausch Festival, LA to start a new piece for the LA Opera, and Provincetown with Alan Cumming. My all-time favorite really may have been the time I tagged along with you and Liza to Buenos Aires! Remember that tango night?!

What lyric have you heard and thought…augh! Why didn’t I write that??
Great question. “Midnight Coward” by the band Stars, and anything written by David Zippel or sung by Nancy LaMott.
