This quote goes right to the core of what bothers me most about how many designers approach their work. If you use the response of other designers as the metric for determining the success or failure of your work, you are already designing for yourself and not the people who actually depend on what you are designing. Designers need to stop worrying about “blowing away” their own professional clique and concern themselves more with whether or not the application is actually meeting the users’ needs without getting in the way. Designers do not “own” the design. They are one member of an entire team of professionals from other disciplines who must collaborate together to create the design of an application.
