‘Run, Baby, Run’ — A Song About Nicky Cruz

Nicky Cruz was born in Puerto Rico. His mom called him “Son of Satan.” At 15 he was sent to New York City to be with his brother. Cruz ran away, joined a gang, ultimately becoming its leader. When a preacher told the gang leader about Jesus, Cruz slapped him. The minister didn’t back down — and pursued him. Cruz finally relented, eventually becoming a preacher himself.

Run, baby, run. Satan’s on your tail. Run, baby, run. Lest he run you into hell. You’ve got no feet upon which to land and start anew, but if by chance, you do get a chance, please do — and run.

Runnin’ wild down a one-way street, to the electric chair. Careful of who you stop and meet, they might just ask you why you’re there. You’ve got no feet upon which to land and start anew, so if by chance, you do get a chance, please do — and run.

Run, baby, run. Satan’s on your tail. Run, baby, run. Lest he run you into hell. You’ve got no feet upon which to land and start anew, but if by chance, you do get a chance, please do — and run.
