We want to change the way you get breaking news

You know the problem. We have to read many online newspapers, magazines and blogs in order to follow the topics we are interested in. Although RSS readers and news discovery services make it easier, we have to work like a machine that filters thousands of news everyday in order to learn what’s happening around the world.

After Twitter and Facebook became common, many of us have started to follow the things we are interested in using these platforms.

The problem of social networks is that they are not designed to follow what’s happening. Personal status updates are the core of social media. This urges us to follow tens of people in order to get updates about a topic. Just to get two or three important news a day, we are exposed to hundreds of unnecessary links, personal photos and status updates. We can’t be mad at anybody about this because this is what the social media is made for.

So why should we limit ourselves?

Internet is a tool that can gather, categorize and store information for everyone to reach and share whenever they want. Internet gives us the opportunity to reach limitless amount of information and people. So why should we limit ourselves to a number of people that we already know in real life.

Social networks made things more democratic. You can see news that you can’t see on mass media. It makes everything more transparent, which is good. However, if you don’t have many followers, your updates will be lost in a few hours no matter how important they are.

We’re all convinced that internet is a better source for everything. But we also agree that internet is full of junk and you need to dig for the information you need. This is where Whapsy kicks in.

How we solve it?

The solution is Whapsy channels which are realtime feeds made of content curated and shared by the members of the channels.

The good part is, channels are not controlled by specific people. Anyone who has something to share about that channel (be it an event, an organization, an idea or a person) can post it there and others who follow that channel see that post.

We are trying to extend people’s reach. We are encouraging “citizen journalism”. So when you want to get news about something that happens away from your reach at that moment, other Whapsy users (who have information about what’s happening) will share it with you.

When you join channels, this turns your home feed on Whapsy into a customized, personalized feed full of news and updates about the subjects you are interested in.

What good does it do?

1- You get to read important updates about your favorite subjects without searching or filtering for them.

2- Whatever you share reaches everyone who is interested in that subject. If your post’s content is catchy then you can easily get your post read, shared and liked.

3- Whapsy does what mass media or other websites don’t do. Whapsy gives everyone equal opportunity to publish their news to the right audience. You get to hear everybody’s opinion on a subject and have a more objective perception of the issue.

Status of Whapsy

Whapsy is in closed beta right now. We need early adopters. If you want to be a part of the change visit Whapsy and leave your email address.
