I so agree with your point Rachel. It seems we’ve lost this extended family bond in our culture. When someone said it takes a village, it used to mean a village of grandparents, aunts and uncles. Far flung families have made that difficult, but not impossible. When my wife had to have abdominal surgery after the birth of our daughter, and I had to work, my dear Mother volunteered to move in with us for 3 months to look after our (then) young family. She sacrificed her comfortable life, 2000 miles from home, to make sure our infant girl and her baby brother had a loving, caring Grandma on hand. These loving kindnesses can never be repaid. I know she loved the experience as much as we love her for it.
