I’m always torn… I appreciate minimalist design as long as it serves the user appropriately — and not because it’s simply the design de jour… I often find that there is a lack of visual language giving the user the appropriate visual cue to easily complete their task… Best to find a balance between material and minimalistic design to serve the user… As a designer, I think it’s key to provide the user with simple functionality AND an emotional experience.
