The Long-term Guest
- When I’m a guest in your home I will conduct myself as a guest.
- I will make no demands and will be respectful of your routines and values.
- I will share my customs with you, but it is I who will adopt yours during my stay.
- I will remember that if I find something distasteful, that I’m free to return to my own home.
- I will not insult my host by importing the dysfunction that made my own home untenable.
- I will assist my host in defending his home from uninvited guests and intruders.
- I will be conservative of my host’s resources and act in every way to ensure that I minimize any burden on my host.
- I will remember, at all times, my status as a guest and will remove myself at the request of my host.
- Failing any of the above, I recognize my host’s right to remove me and that I alone am responsible for this outcome.
The United States is my home and I expect my guests behave the same way.
