I agree with the sentiment expressed in the piece and with Sceptical Meerkat below. Similar sentiments have been expressed in the UK along the lines of people can get married at 16, die for their country but not vote or have a drink. I don’t know if either age (18 for alcohol and voting in the UK, 21 for drinking in the USA) is appropriate but both countries have problems with alcohol use. Obviously the attraction of the prescribed behaviour plays a part.
